VALERIA FORERO, COHORT 3

Valeria Forero is a Sociology major at the City College of New York in her junior year. She was born in Barranquilla, Colombia, and migrated to the United States with her mother at 13 years old in search of a better future. Being an immigrant, she was exposed to many of the struggles that immigrant communities face every day and her lived experience equips her with valuable insights into how the issues facing immigrant communities work together. Valeria is passionate about addressing the needs of the immigrant community through activism, non-profit work, and policy-making. As a Scholar-Activism Fellow, Valeria hopes that the experience and knowledge she gains in the BI classes, combined with her lived-experience as a Latinx immigrant woman, equips her with the tools to accomplish her goals. Valeria is working towards a political project that will bring positive changes to the immigrant community in the U.S.
